I like cute things. So when I started decorating the kitchen, that’s exactly the direction I went. I chose cute little things for the kitchen, like broccoli-shaped hand towels, cute plushie magnets for the fridge, cute little decorative fabrics, and colorful glass vases that brighten up the atmosphere. There’s no particular theme really, I just added whatever made me smile. Then on the open shelf above the backsplash, I put my collection of mugs. Besides being a collection, it’s also a decoration. And a small way to show a bit of me in the space. In this kitchen, which is quite large, 6x6m, I can express myself freely in decorating. The only colorful room in my house. I chose a sleek & clean looking white kitchen set from IKEA, 6 meters long. Deliberately made lots of cabinets in the kitchen to store things, because this house lacks storage space. So actually, this kitchen set doesn't just store kitchen items. The colorful accents from the pans are the focal point in this kitchen, and I deliberately placed them on the kitchen shelf to make it easier to retrieve and store because these pans are used every day. Apart from the kitchen as the main decoration in this kitchen, the next decoration choice here is the carpet. I periodically change the carpet in the kitchen to change the atmosphere. Slide 1 The entire cabinet view Slide 2 & 3 The cabinet under the sink, contains 2 drawers for kitchen necessities, and a trash can Slide 4 The lower cabinet to the left of the sink, contains an IKEA UTRUSTA manual dish drying rack, so when you're done washing dishes, put them down here. The bottom shelf is for holding water, it can be pulled out. Previously, this drying rack was positioned in the upper cabinet, but because it was high for the kids, I moved it down. Slide 5 The lower cabinet to the right of the sink. The upper shelf has a sterilizer/dish dryer for plates and glasses. It is intentionally designed to be placed next to the bottom of the sink, and there is already an electrical point in the cabinet. The lower shelf is for rice and cooking spices. Slide 6 The pot that is occasionally used, is positioned next to the manual dish drying rack. Slide 7 IKEA BEKVAM ladder to take things in the upper cabinet Slide 8 The upper cabinet, filled with plates and glasses. This was originally the position for the UTRUSTA manual dish drying rack. Is it possible to have a kitchen that is always neat like Pinterest? The answer is: absolutely! 😆 The key is in one important thing: storage. Because my kitchen is not only used for cooking, but also for other things, I want the space to remain neat and functional. So when designing this kitchen, I really focused on storage. One of the highlights is the custom island table in the middle of the kitchen. The design is simple and versatile, but it secretly has many functions👍🏼 On one long side, this table functions as a dining area. The stool can be tucked inside so it doesn't take up space. On the other side that is more hidden, there are drawers for storing cooking utensils, spoons, forks, small containers, and even spices. Because this part is not immediately visible from the outside, it looks clean but its function is maximized. It doesn't stop there, the side of this island table also has a small shelf for storing books. Besides being useful, it also looks really cute as an accent in the kitchen. You could say, this island table is the star of the kitchen!!🌟✨ haha For other storage, I utilize the main cabinet section that is attached to the wall. Items that are 'not so nice to look at' like gas cylinders, dry food with its busy and colorful packaging🥵🥵, medicines, and cleaning products, I hide them all there👌🏽😌 With all this storage, the kitchen looks neat all the time, not only for cooking, but also a comfortable place for other activities. When I moved into this house, one of the things I wanted the most was a clean & light, yet functional kitchen. That's why I chose a minimalist one-line kitchen design, paired with this special island table in the middle. Kitchen and Dining Usually if breakfast is free, it's not always at the dining table, so sometimes it's at the kitchen island table, sometimes at the dining table. Only for lunch and dinner we always sit in the dining area. Apart from being used for preparing food and cooking, this kitchen island area is also often used as a place for online meetings/WFH by my husband.
