People used to say that it was taboo if a room in a house was made without partitions. Especially between the dining room, family room and open kitchen in one. It's inappropriate, they said.
However, nowadays, the trend for open plan concept houses is really popular. Well, because of the limited land, we decided to combine three rooms at once with an open plan/open space concept.
Like houses in Japan, our house also has a mini genkan area. The inspiration came from Nobita's house in the Doraemon cartoon. The size is not big, but it is enough to feed the inner child and reminisce about our favorite cartoons from our childhood.
A few tips from us for those of you who want to apply the open plan concept when building a house:
Do ✅:
- Choose furniture (such as a slim sofa).
- Choose light colored interior paint, so that the room looks spacious.
- If you have a lot of displays, choose a slim shelf. Shelves can also function as partitions, if you want to divide a little room.
- Instead of using shelves as partitions, you can also use glass as a room divider to make it look wider.
- You can also distinguish the floor plane as a room divider. You can also play with the height of the floor.
- Choose a seamless interior door.
Don’ts ❌:
- Avoid choosing an L-shaped sofa, so that the room does not look narrow.
- Avoid using protruding floor skirting.
