When designing a cozy and family-friendly dining room, I wanted to make sure every element I chose created a warm and functional atmosphere. Since we only live together, the dining room in our house often moves from the living room in front of the TV cabinet, to the bar table, to the balcony—our favorite place for breakfast or a romantic dinner.
This balcony is a perfect example of how we use outdoor space as a dining room. The table and chairs here are made of HPL board with an iron frame, so they are sturdy and comfortable even though they are small, only enough for two people. The tableware such as plates and glasses that we chose are made of ceramic—not only stylish, but also add an elegant impression when used. Uniquely, the tablecloth we used was recycled from an old sofa, now serves as a decorative accent on our small dining table.
For a kid-friendly dining room, choosing safe and durable materials is key. Use furniture with rounded corners, materials that are easy to clean, and textiles that are soft but strong. But for me, the most important thing is to create a comfortable and loving atmosphere, whether it's in a formal dining room or a balcony.
Top tip? Flexibility is everything. Make the dining room a place where shared moments feel warm, comfortable, and definitely not boring!
