Hello friends @compacthappyhome! 😄 We want to tell you a little about our tiny kitchen which is about 3x2 meters in size. This kitchen is integrated with the dining and living areas, so it feels more open and spacious. The shape is U-shaped, so that it fits the layout of the room and it was indeed designed like that from the start by our architect. But there's an exciting story! Initially, the design plan was different. However, while walking around, we accidentally passed in front of a furniture store that displayed a teak wood kitchen set that immediately made us fall in love. So, the plan changed! Because we really like the natural look, we ended up using natural materials in the kitchen. We chose granite for the kitchen table and sink. In addition to being strong and durable, granite also gives an elegant touch but still feels warm and natural. For the kitchen cabinet, we chose teak wood with a simple design without handles, so that it looks sleek and modern. We only used the lower cabinets so that the room feels more spacious. Meanwhile, we used classic white subway ceramic for the backsplash. The result? Clean and timeless look! This U shape is perfect for maximizing space while making cooking more comfortable. Oh yeah, we also separated the kitchen a little from the dining area so that it still feels spacious and comfortable. This House, Our Story 16 years ago, we found this house—a new cluster house, and it immediately felt comfortable since we first moved in. Over time, the need for space increased, and the house began to ‘demand’ repairs here and there. Until finally, about 4 years ago, we decided to do a total renovation. Not without consideration, of course. We had thought about moving to a new house, but after calculating it, renovation felt more reasonable. The budget was more controlled, and most importantly, we could design the house according to our own needs and tastes. One of the things that made us fall in love with this house is the fairly spacious public facilities area at the back that can be used by the cluster residents—of course with certain rules. Plus a simple, low-maintenance, functional, and healthy design with lots of light and air circulation from large windows on each side of the house. 15 years ago, we first bought this house. The choice fell on the cluster area because of security, quiet atmosphere, and neat management. After living there for more than 13 years, our children grew into pre-teens and needed their own rooms, and the house began to need repairs here and there. We finally decided to do a total renovation. Renovation felt more efficient than buying a new house in the same neighborhood, especially since house prices here have skyrocketed. Every morning, sunlight and fresh air flow freely through the large window facing this backyard. We intentionally made a simple backyard design, with only green grass and a few plants for easy maintenance. But it turns out, the journey is not that simple! After 2 years, we have replanted the grass twice because it was full of holes and uneven. The terraced soil structure does give it its own character when viewed from the window, but it also makes maintaining it a challenge. The trick is to combine materials in a uniform tone. Because our home has a monochrome concept, we play with the details of the floors and walls with different textures. Some we painted with the kamprot technique, some we left using exposed cement.
