—— Kitchen Transformation ✨
After 9 years of living in this house, we were finally able to renovate our alley senggol kitchen as we wanted. Previously, our kitchen had a bold theme with black as the dominant color.
One of the frugal tricks that I use is to utilize modular furniture and open shelves, which are more affordable than custom built-ins. In addition, choosing neutral colors and durable materials makes this kitchen less boring.
I chose a kitchen table makeover with lighter wood motif stickers to give a warm touch and contrast with the black cabinets. The white ceramic backsplash with black grout is also the main choice because it is easy to clean and remains timeless.

I deliberately made this dining room and kitchen area open space because my dream is to have a bar table at home. But I didn't make a high bar table, why? Because it was intentionally made so that it can also be used as a multifunctional table that can be used to store anything. It is still a wishlist to add chairs to this table, so for now I don't use chairs (hopefully soon) hehe.
This ala-style bar table also serves as a divider between the family room and the kitchen ✨

Mini kitchen transformation 🏠
One of our favorite renovations is transforming this mini kitchen into a more functional one and the result is according to our wishes even with a budget that is not too big. Because we wanted to have a kitchen with lots of storage cabinets that look a bit neater and wanted a design with a touch of Japandi color, this mini kitchen was finally realized. The top table and backsplash use white granite and the cabinets mix wood & white colors making this kitchen look more spacious. To make it more matching, we chose all the shelves and details in this kitchen with the same color. ☺️

This kitchen and dining room are 3x6 meters in size, for the kitchen set I initially made it with a Scandinavian model dominated by white but after the renovation I changed everything to Japandi with more wood nuances. While the dining area is more dominantly white to make it look wider and cleaner.

➖ Kitchen Renovation
The process towards a new dream kitchen can be realized in 2024.
Previously in 2016 (slide 4), when we first moved into the house, the developer's built-in alley kitchen still used shelves that were again made by ourselves, aka DIY.
The kitchen items and furnishings were still simple and many were brought from our parents' house. We did change the backsplash and granite to black, previously the developer's built-in orange color.
After almost 5 years of living in the house, we added a kitchen set to make it tidier and have lots of storage. We chose black because our previous house style was monochrome. (Slide 5)
Alhamdulillah, in this 9th year we replaced the kitchen backsplash, replaced the sink, and added vinyl to the kitchen floor to make it look brighter and cleaner.

On the upper floor, there is an empty area that is not so big. We use it as a family room to relax and watch TV. Ceiling fans are very useful in making the room feel cooler. Now, this area is our favorite spot.

Styling kitchen & dining area 🩵
The first thing that came to mind when renovating this house was that there must be a compact kitchen cabinet and there must be a dining table even though our house is relatively small.
Because one of the sources of warmth in the house comes from cooking and eating together. At first, I was a little hesitant to install a wood & white kitchen cabinet because the color has been used too much in kitchens in general, but because we felt the color of the cabinet matched the styling and identity of the house, we finally decided to use that color. And in the end, the wood & white color of the kitchen cabinet is easier to style with any decoration, both natural and colorful. Because our kitchen & dining room are open space areas, this area is often changed in styling, sometimes the mood uses natural colors, sometimes the mood adds decorations such as carpets, more colorful tablecloths

🌸 Aesthetic and Functional Kitchen and Dining 🌸
Because the size of the house is not too big but still wants to be aesthetic, I have to be smart in choosing items that are aesthetic but have maximum function, not only as decoration and sweetener, but also vice versa, for example in the curtains under the kitchen, kitchen cabinets, chairs, tablecloths and the details in the kitchen and dining room.
I choose all these items with matching colors and are suitable to be combined.
I often change the function of the step stool for a display place when not in use.
I also choose electronic equipment such as dispensers or built-in stoves that have matching colors and aesthetic shapes, but still with the consideration of affordable prices in their class.
I usually choose white, black, or pastel colors mixed with gold to fit the theme of this house.
Everyone must be smart in choosing it so that it doesn't pile up and eventually get confused about where to put it 😅

Kitchen with Japandi Concept: My kitchen area carries a minimalist style with a white color dominance and natural wood accents that give a clean and calm impression. Closed kitchen cabinets help hide equipment so that the room still looks neat.
Wooden Countertop: I chose a wooden countertop combined with a white subway tile backsplash. This provides a balance between the warmth of the wood material and the modern impression of the tiles.
Open Shelves and Storage: I deliberately added open shelves to display small items such as cups, spice jars, and simple decorations. These shelves provide an aesthetic accent without making the room look messy.
Kitchen Equipment: A minimalist-designed built-in stove is the centerpiece in the kitchen area. I also chose a kettle, water dispenser, and other cooking utensils that match the theme of the room, all simple and modern.
Kitchen Lighting: The pendant lamp in the kitchen area has the same design as the dining lamp, creating visual continuity between the two areas. The warm light from this lamp makes the kitchen feel more welcoming.
Kitchen Decor: To strengthen the Japandi theme, I added small touches like mini plant pots, wooden containers for cooking utensils, and simple organizers to store cutlery.
Overall Room: The transition between the kitchen and dining table is made seamless, without partitions, so the room feels more spacious and bright. Beige, white, and wooden accents make these two areas look harmonious and unified.
With this design, the kitchen and dining room not only function as a place to cook or eat, but also as a family area to gather and share stories. ❤️

TV area update after yesterday's makeover. We cut the top of the old wpc & installed upvc marble on all sides of the TV area. The shelves were also reduced so that they were not too high. Although the color is not as expected, we think it's still okay. What do the neighbors think? Better before or after the makeover?

The TV room is in the middle of the living room and kitchen area, this TV room is intentionally not partitioned because we want an open space home concept, although the downside is if there are guests, there is no privacy hehe.
