Previously, our kitchen had a bold theme with black as the dominant color. One of the frugal tricks that I use is to utilize modular furniture and open shelves, which are more affordable than custom built-ins. In addition, choosing neutral colors and durable materials makes this kitchen less boring. I chose a kitchen table makeover with lighter wood motif stickers to give a warm touch and contrast with the black cabinets. The white ceramic backsplash with black grout is also the main choice because it is easy to clean and remains timeless. ➖ Kitchen Renovation The process towards a new dream kitchen can be realized in 2024. Previously in 2016 (slide 4), when we first moved into the house, the developer's built-in alley kitchen still used shelves that were again made by ourselves, aka DIY. The kitchen items and furnishings were still simple and many were brought from our parents' house. We did change the backsplash and granite to black, previously the developer's built-in orange color. After almost 5 years of living in the house, we added a kitchen set to make it tidier and have lots of storage. We chose black because our previous house style was monochrome. (Slide 5) Alhamdulillah, in this 9th year we replaced the kitchen backsplash, replaced the sink, and added vinyl to the kitchen floor to make it look brighter and cleaner. —— Gang Senggol Kitchen Transformation Actually, this kitchen is what makes my account really busy on Ohouse which is said to be inspiring 🥹 Even though this tiny kitchen like Gang Senggol is only 1.65 m wide and 4.8 m long. It's not an open space kitchen either, because we bought this house already built by the developer and there is a partition between the family room and the kitchen. Previously, this kitchen had an open kitchen theme (slide 6) so there were no kitchen cabinets, we only added shelves to store kitchen spices, but it did look messier. After living in the house for 5 years, we had a little fortune to change the kitchen and add cabinets / kitchen sets in full black. We covered the backsplash and table top with wall stickers to save on the budget (slide 5). Finally, this is our kitchen now, after joining ohouse from season 3-5, thank God I saved the benefits from ohouse and used it to renovate the kitchen, by replacing the backsplash, replacing the sink built by the developer, and adding vinyl to the kitchen floor.
