Our 1890s shingle Victorian is in the midst of her glow-up! We’ve remodeled and designed homes before, but this one is our biggest project yet. Every single room needs an overhaul – at the very least, paint, but most need much more than that. So far we have completed three rooms - the living room, the laundry room, and an extra bedroom. We are currently in the middle of our kitchen remodel, so that will make four! One thing is for certain – we are not turning this detailed beauty into a cookie-cutter new build. When we renovated our kitchen entirely by ourselves, from painting the cabinets to installing a backsplash, I envisioned an organic white ceramic backsplash with a subtle texture, creamy cabinets, and a touch of brass. (I ended up chosing a different type of tile.) I self-painted the cabinets with four coats of grain filler, two coats of primer, and the paint still looks strong after five years.
