My cherished moments at home arrive during weekend mornings, where the tranquility of early hours allows me to indulge in my favorite pastime. When my husband’s grandmother passed away in 2016, her house, which was about 3000 square meters in size, was put up for sale. However, it was difficult to find a buyer interested in purchasing such a large property.
Long story short, my husband had a college friend who was a cluster developer. When he visited and saw the grandmother’s house, he agreed to collaborate with us. This cluster would be built on our land, designed and marketed by the developer, and we would share in the proceeds from the property sales.
There are a total of 18 houses in the Ruma Setu cluster, and we took two units. Our house is on a corner. Our house was completed at the end of 2018, along with two other houses used as show homes (see slides 4 & 5).
We renovated it in 2021 by adding a rooftop and laundry room. At the beginning of 2023, we added a full canopy on the rooftop with an open-close roof model, as we wanted to use the area to play ping pong.
We maintained the original façade and design of the house as provided by the developer. For the house design and room layout, we followed the original design by the architect, Ferdy Apriady - Ayya Architects.
That is our home journey; I hope it inspires you who read this.

The stairs in our house are floating stairs. The side handrail has a minimalist frame from the developer, so we added glass to make it safer.
Because of their floating design, it would be a shame to place cabinets or closets under the stairs, as it would cover the shape of the steps.
Initially, the steps were covered with Conwood decorative stair decking, but over time, the top layer of the Conwood peeled due to friction and water. So, in 2023, we covered them with vinyl taco.

This is the kitchen and dining room in my house. I deliberately combined them to make it simpler and more comfortable to use for gatherings. While cooking, I can chat with those sitting at the dining table. I really like the rattan and wood elements, making the atmosphere warm and cool. The light from the big window also makes the room very bright, no need for lots of lamps during the day.

Expectation vs. Reality: Building My Dream Kitchen
This white kitchen has been in my dreams for a long time. Finally, it came true at the end of 2021—two years after we moved into this house. In addition to having to prepare a budget, I was also quite selective in choosing a designer and contractor. After much consideration, the choice fell on Hyde Living.
The cost of designing and building this kitchen was around 50 million rupiah, not including kitchen appliances and additional accessories such as IKEA shelves, knobs, and small plant decorations that beautify the room.
In slides 2 and 3, you can see a comparison between the rendering image and the actual result. It turns out, it's very similar! The only difference is that we decided not to install a cooker hood because the roof was already tightly closed and did not allow for ducting.
Now, cooking is more fun! This kitchen is not only beautiful to look at, but also very functional.

Tiny Bathroom, Still Functional! 🚿✨
Measuring 2.6 m x 1.46 m, this bathroom is indeed tiny but still comfortable! 🚪💦 This bathroom is not only for guests, but also most often used by our children because it is located on the 1st floor and close to their playroom.
To keep the toilet area dry, a tempered glass shower is installed to prevent water splashes. The installation of the glass shower is the only addition to this developer's bathroom. Besides, we have never renovated this bathroom.
The combination of white subway tiles and gray tiles gives a clean and timeless impression. All the equipment uses TOTO, so it remains functional and high quality 👌

Minimalist Scandinavian Facade
This house was completed in 2019, and from the start it already had a distinctive vibe—minimalist, warm, and very comfortable. The Scandinavian style is felt from the combination of exposed concrete and wooden accents that keep the facade simple but still aesthetic. Plus large sliding windows with dark gray frames, it's even more modern and bright because natural light can easily enter.
The front of the house has an unusual roof shape, making the trapezoidal silhouette look unique. There is a balcony that juts out slightly, so there is an interesting additional space. The garage is also open, still connected to the facade design which is dominated by conwood. Then, there is a small garden inside that makes the atmosphere even cooler, complete with a white swing that gives a very homey impression.
This is not just an ordinary house, this house is really designed to be comfortable and make you feel at home. Very suitable for those who like simple but still elegant designs!
