Minimal Stool for Compact Rooms Design Ideas
"Space is ultimately the face of the time I've lived through."
I received an invitation to the House of the Year Awards.
It wasn't just a piece of paper, but a small signal that the spaces I've loved over the years had reached someone.
For me, home isn't just a place to stay,
it's a way of designing my world itself.
From the lawn overlooking the Jeju ocean and windmills,
to the natural light from the large windows that offer a different picture each season,
to the volcanic cluster garden resembling a Balinese rice field—
every scene that fills my day is a work of art, a space where everything connects.
The living room and bedroom are combined to create an open space, like a pool villa.
I sit with Popo in my forest-like studio to clear my mind.
I display tumblers I've collected from my travels in the entryway,
recalling the moments I've left behind—
All these details have accumulated to create "Our Home."
And the story of this house has become one of the spaces highlighted by Today's House this year.
What could be more rewarding?
Looking at the invitation, a thought suddenly occurred to me:
"This time spent loving space like this is ultimately taking me somewhere."
I'm grateful to be part of the launch of the Today's House of the Year Awards.
I hope my story, which begins in a house in Jeju, continues to grow beautifully in the future.💕
p.s. And one thing:
Preparing for this award made me reconsider, "What does this space mean to me?"
Jeju is home to an unusually large number of stray cats, yard cats, and abandoned dogs,
and my daily life has naturally been intertwined with these animals.
If I'm fortunate enough to receive an award,
I'd like to donate some of the points I receive to
support the abandoned cats and dogs I've developed relationships with.
Even if no one recognizes it, it's something I've always wanted to do.
I hope this opportunity will allow me to share some positive feelings with those who love my space.☺️🙏

I was debating which photo to post, but I thought it would be best to share a photo that's been well-received by users. So, I decided to share a photo of my room from early spring this year, filled with a lovely and vintage vibe.
A butter and cream-toned room with a vintage-patterned rug. This photo, which I posted in early to mid-year, has been very popular.
✔️Would you believe that this space was originally used as an office in a commercial-residential building? I received permission from the landlord to repurpose the space into a comfortable bedroom, so I did the legwork myself. I didn't want to hire a contractor, so finding and communicating with the flooring, lighting, and woodwork myself was a challenge.
Q. What did you remodel?
A. Because it was originally used as an office, the flooring was dark and the space itself was spacious. Since I live alone, I didn't need a lot of space, so I installed a partition wall between the large 33-square-foot (10-pyeong) vestibule, separating it into two rooms.
To ensure privacy, I covered the front window of the bedroom with woodwork. I then covered the floor with light-colored decorative tiles and painted the black lines on the walls to create a clean, uncluttered look. Simply changing the floor and walls to a bright color brightened the space significantly.
For the flooring, I chose ✔️ cost-effective decorative tiles. The wide width minimizes gaps, making maintenance easy. Materials are also relatively inexpensive, allowing me to complete a space over 20 pyeong (approximately 66 square meters) for under 1 million won. If you're on a tight budget, there's no better flooring material than Decotile.
〰 After the Remodeling 〰
Remodeling is difficult the first time, but the second or third time is nothing.
We've lived in this house for about two years now, and I'm starting to get a little bored, so I'm planning on refinishing the floors again. While the renovation, furniture disposal, and room layout changes won't allow me to recreate the same look, I'm eager to leave behind this beautiful room and try something different.
Now that I can't see this mood anymore, I think it fits perfectly with the "2025 House of the Year" theme, which was only available in 2025. That's why I'm sharing this room.
My aesthetic sense may not be as exceptional as others, but if I make the most of what I have and find contentment within myself, wouldn't my home be more precious and beautiful than anyone else's?
My trapezoidal home transformed from a dreary office into a warm and cozy bedroom. If you find it beautiful, please vote for me ♥️
