After sprinkling it like this, I put on nitrile gloves and rubbed it. It's hard to use a regular vacuum cleaner, and I had to use a high-Pascal bedding cleaner that sucks while tapping. It caught all the baking soda and cleaned it more cleanly. It took quite a while, but the slightly sticky carpet became fluffy.
