Two out of four suddenly left after less than a week of feeding them, and one of them closed its eyes the next day on the way to the hospital. Of them, only one calico cat, who was the most cautious but ate well, survived the panther that took away its siblings. After hanging on to the trap I hastily procured for a day, I succeeded in rescuing it, and fortunately, the panther responded negatively. This small cat, who weighed only 520g, survived and suddenly became our family. I had never imagined living with a cat, but at the time, I felt like I had to do it. I probably didn't know much and was reckless, but even if I had known better, I think I would have brought it home in the end. The cat was named ‘Ho-saeng’ after a tense disagreement between my mom who wanted to name him ‘Tiger’ because his facial markings resembled a tiger’s, and my mom who wanted him to live because he survived a near-death experience. After naming him, I liked the fact that it also contained the meaning of ‘live a good cat life.’ After being quarantined for a month and completely eliminating parasites, Ho-saeng became my real roommate. Ho-saeng! I’m still not sure that I’m the butler who can make you happier than anyone else in the world, but I’ll never forget my original intention of wanting to save you and make you live a happy life, and I’ll always try to be a better roommate.
