Last time I talked about Tori's space, this time I'll introduce the space where I usually sit. For me, who doesn't have a TV, this space changes into various spaces where I can watch TV while eating, work, or sometimes play games. Tori would fall asleep in his bed or mine, then quietly come next to me while I'm on the computer and curl up and lie down. I wanted to take a picture of Tori sleeping soundly, but if I rustled around, I might wake him up, and since the angle of the picture didn't come out well while he was sitting on the chair, I couldn't take a picture. However, this space is a place where I stay for a long time and like to stay, as well as a place for Tori to rest. So one of Tori's private resting spaces might have become the space under the desk. I've already rearranged the furniture in this house once, but Tori still visits the space where the desk used to be before the rearrangement and spends time alone. When I sleep in that space, I can’t see it well because it’s covered by the bed, so when I try to find it, it’s like playing hide-and-seek, so it’s like a game of finding Tori by myself. Since direct communication is difficult, we usually notice it just by looking at each other’s eyes and actions based on the trust we’ve built up between us, but when Tori first started resting in a dark, shadowy space by himself, I was surprised and thought he might be depressed or lethargic. I once heard that dogs can become anxious like separation anxiety when they’re separated from their guardians all day long, so it’s important for dogs to enjoy a certain amount of time alone. I’ve been living with Tori for over 11 years, so I think I know everything about dogs now, but I think I’m learning more and more as I get to know them. That might be why I divided the space with furniture when I decorated the large studio apartment. I think I paid attention to making it not stuffy for Tori and to making it look like multiple spaces.
