Record Club 10th Post📝 [Summer] It is the middle of summer in July, when rainy season and heat wave alternate. With the damp air full of moisture and the heat rising like a haze on the asphalt, I find myself drenched in sweat and looking for a cool cafe less than ten minutes after leaving the house. The coughing of people with summer colds lingers in my ears due to the temperature difference between inside and outside. The playground, which used to be full of children running around late at night, is deserted during the tropical night. Summer in the city is a bit tough, but I still like summer. The relief of being freed from thick outerwear like armor and leaving the house in light clothes with only sunglasses and a book! Every weekend, I pack a swimsuit and a few clothes and head out to the beach, valley, or swimming pool to enjoy water play, so heat waves seem like a joke. Like the children in the picture book <Watermelon Pool> who enjoy swimming without realizing the passage of time until the sun sets, the sun sets as they return to their childhood and enjoy splashing around in the water. Home is the best on weekdays. When I sit around with my family with the fan on and eat cool watermelon, when the children show off the fans they made at school, when the rainy season starts and rain boots and umbrellas are placed in the hallway every day, I feel that it is definitely summer. The trees outside the window, which had been bare all winter, are now covered in green. I cannot help but be amazed by the power of life and the greatness of nature. I rearrange the sofa to enjoy the view of the trees, make coffee, and float ice cubes on it, then choose a book with a summer setting and read it. When I read the part describing nature, I experience simultaneity and shiver at being in the same season. I listen to the chorus of cicadas and birds echoing from all directions through the open window, and I also appreciate the feast of light and shadow that sways every time the leaves sway. All distracting thoughts disappear and I am completely sucked into the book. The summer rain is cool and nice. It feels like my heart is being cleansed by the pouring rain. I smile at the children who can’t pass by even a puddle, and I hum the song “Three Umbrellas Walk Side by Side” while holding an umbrella with each of the children. When a car passes by, I feel happy as I barely avoid the rain that comes crashing down like a wave, and I even put my hand out of the umbrella to catch the rainwater. Walking together in the rain, reading a book while listening to the sound of the rain, and falling asleep are all good. When I was young, I simply liked fall because my birthday was in October, but now I can say it clearly. I love summer the most. Even now, when the rain comes and goes, I hope that summer will never end. The children’s summer vacation is coming soon. Let’s enjoy summer by soaking up the sunlight, swimming without any worries, and sweating.
