Record Club 12th Post📝 [Taste] I think life is a journey to find my taste and get to know myself. Tastes are not determined from birth like blood types, but change depending on the environment and time, so I may never be able to say for sure that ‘this is my taste’ for the rest of my life. Since I got my own space, my interior design taste has changed countless times. Before I got married, when I was living alone, I didn’t have the confidence to grow plants, so I bought artificial flowers to decorate my house, and I also put up pretty glass bottles and tin case props that I collected. There was a time when I painted the entire room in pink, and there was even a time when all my bedding and curtains were pink. I briefly dabbled in white interiors, but then realized that the furniture that I don’t get tired of and use for a long time is wood, so now I have unified all my furniture with wood. After reading <Living Simply>, I became obsessed with minimalist life for a while, and I read related books and devoted myself to getting rid of and emptying all my good items. I wanted to live simply, emptying everything except books, but somehow they are gradually filling up. It is so hard to control desires. Books are the ones that are hard to define your taste. The only books that I gave up on minimalism from the beginning are not emptying, but rather increasing, and as new tastes are added, the fields become more diverse. When I was into coffee, I read books related to coffee, and when I had a child, I constantly bought parenting books. Basically, I like long novels that I can read while getting lost in. I absolutely have to buy new books by my favorite authors, and if a book is out of print and unavailable, I have to search through used bookstores to get it. I like Hermann Hesse, Françoise Sagan, Alain de Botton, and Haruki Murakami. I listen to a variety of music, but I listen to classical music every day. I start my morning by listening to classical FM radio. When I was a high school student, I was captivated by Yundi Li's Chopin Competition Final Stage and listened to it countless times, and I went to Cho Seong-jin's Chopin recital two days in a row and even got his autograph. When I listened to Lim Dong-hyeok’s Rachmaninoff piano concerto in person, which I have been a fan of since I was young, I got goosebumps because it was so good. When I was young, my mother always played classical CDs before going to bed, and I think that had a big influence. I still like the songs I listened to back then. One thing that will never change is ‘nature.’ The sky, mountains, trees, flowers, and the sea become more and more attractive. As I get older, nature lingers in my sight for a long time. I have also become quite good at keeping plants close by and taking care of them. As I watch the plants diligently sprouting, I promise myself not to neglect taking care of them even when I become a grandmother. I don’t know how my tastes will change in the future, but I can say that I am now someone who listens to classical music, takes care of plants, and diligently reads books to keep up with the pace of buying books in a house with a wood interior.
