⟡The power to go anywhere My brilliant early 20s, my memories of college are divided into two: part-time jobs and travel. Since I worked tirelessly while attending school, I developed a sense of compensation and made a promise to myself that I would take a plane no matter what every month. When I went on my first overseas trip, I was a J person who made tight plans that filled several sheets of A4 paper and was busier before leaving than at the destination. However, as I gradually gained more travel experience, I quickly bought a plane ticket whenever I had the chance and shouted, “Even no plan is a plan,” and I was busy going on one more trip. It’s not much, but I’ve been born in this small country and have traveled to over 20 countries alone or with others, and I think that someday I might write a travel essay. The things I learned and felt while traveling, not sightseeing, have become invaluable strengths that I can’t understand even if I study for a lifetime and have remained deeply in my life. From my trip to England, where I had to sleep in the corner of the airport because I didn’t have enough money to travel, to Italy, where I thought I had failed because my passport and bag containing money were pickpocketed, to my Japanese friends who started at a ramen restaurant in Tokyo where only locals were, to my brothers who I met at a Korean guesthouse in the Czech Republic and whom I still meet often and have a drink with eight years later. If I hadn’t left fearlessly, the memories and experiences I would have never known about my entire life have accumulated one by one to make me who I am today, and I can rely on those memories to endure each day. A trip that I take once in a while may not solve all of life’s problems, but it certainly gives me a corner to lean on when I’m tired and having a hard time. Having the power to go anywhere means having the power to see life from a longer perspective. The power to live flexibly according to the situation, that’s the power that travel gives me. How thankful I am to be able to walk on my own two feet, whenever and wherever. When tears come, don’t cry and just leave. “An unexpected trip at the end of a dangerous week. For me, who has the hardest time resting and stopping, this lightning-quick trip without a plan or a set location will give me strength. Thanks to this unplanned trip, I can catch my breath and reorganize.” - A travel journal from 2022 #Record Club #낭만있는소비
