The seventh favorite thing: They say that when you like flowers, you get older. The plants that filled the veranda of my house when I was young. I asked my mom, who watered them, pruned them, brought them inside in the cold winter so they wouldn’t freeze to death, and even spoke warm words to them, “Why do you like plants so much, Mom?” and she said, “You’ll understand when you get older.” I’m already approaching my forties. In my house where I spend most of my days alone and quietly, I feel comforted just by the thought that there are living beings, not objects, in the same space as me. I chuckled and realized that I’m getting older like my mom. However, my ambitious determination to become a gardener like my mom was often in vain because my love and care were excessive, and I often ended up killing the plants. These days, instead of potted plants, I bring in fresh flowers and feel short but deep happiness. Bringing fresh flowers into the house brings visual happiness, and the faint scent of flowers fills the house, bringing life to a space that seemed a little bleak.
