Summer and the rainy season are the seasons that make me think of root flies 🥹 In humid weather, the soil doesn't dry well, so they lay eggs in the roots and fly around the house. You can eradicate them to some extent just by installing a root trap in your flower pot! This makes a big difference ~~ The larvae hatch from their eggs and right before they fly around, they stick to the trap, so pests are definitely reduced!
