My house is a duplex facing north. So there is no direct sunlight, but it is bright because it is a large window and the front is open. The advantage of a duplex is the openness due to the high ceiling. It doesn't feel stuffy at all even if you stay in the house for a long time. And the advantage of a north-facing house is that it is not hot in the summer.
