When I first entered, it was dark and there was a partition wall that made me wonder why, and it literally made the narrow space look even more stuffy. Installing an island was a stroke of genius. I chose it because the kitchen was narrow and I needed more counter space and there wasn't enough storage, but now it's become a place for a coffee machine, and sometimes a place to make kimbap with my child, and even bake. If it's a narrow space, I think it's better to make the colors brighter and leave the upper cabinets open rather than raising them all the way up. But if I were to be more ambitious in the next house, I'd like a wider island and a window where the sun shines in, and a very wide, pointy, contrasting marble wall, maybe?
