After recalling the good moments from my trip, I take the time to tidy up my house every night. Like a hotel turn-down service, I offer myself simple and small services, even if only for a little while. This process begins the moment I get home and open the door. I put away the receipts that I had inadvertently placed on the table. I organize the pile of clothes that the back of the chair is carrying. On the bed, I leave only a pillow that I have hit a couple of times and a neatly spread blanket. A quick and simple tidying up that doesn’t interfere with my rest is enough. It’s a quiet and easy process. There’s still a little day left to turn back the day, and I shouldn’t overwork myself as I take care of myself. Just by going through that quiet time of comfort and consideration, a quiet and cozy encouragement fills the room with the lights dimmed. Every day is a series of tense moments. A short turn-down is a delicate care that can easily be missed in that time. There will come another day when it feels like there is no one on my side in the world. On days when everything in this world that I had just gotten used to becomes unfamiliar again, I don’t go anywhere but go home.
