It's semi-automatic. You just need to learn the grind and pressure settings. After testing it out, I found the right grind size for my needs. (There are 18 grind settings.) At first, it took a bit of fiddling with the settings and learning the parts, but it was easy. Seriously, most of the time, it brews really well. + Rich crema.
