I've always wondered what the purpose of that extra layer of fabric on top of the blanket at hotels is. It's called a bed scarf, and it's used to protect the sheets when you're lying down with your shoes on, and to signal that the cleaning is complete. I didn't think it was just for decoration, but it turns out it actually has a purpose! I'm so relieved to have my curiosity answered! While I was at it, I recently bought a thin blanket and added a bed scarf to my home. And that's how I learned another thing about Eastern and Western culture :)
