Because I value sleep, I'm always careful when choosing a mattress. Having only used thick, firm mattresses, I was skeptical about whether a medium-firm 33cm mattress would be enough. After using it for over a week, I found it refreshingly firm yet slightly enveloping. "Soft yet firm." The Mela mattress feels cushioned when you first sit on it, but when you lie down, it provides firm support for your lower back. My job involves lifting heavy objects, which causes shoulder and back issues, but waking up in the morning with a lighter weight was the most noticeable difference. I appreciated the lack of back strain or discomfort, and even my husband, who has a herniated disc and is sensitive to bedding, said he slept comfortably. I used to wonder why a mattress needs to be pretty, but after setting it up, I was wondering if I really needed a cover. Haha. My second child, who knows how pretty things are, came and took my spot like a ghost :) The fabric isn't waterproof, but it's soft and nice to the touch, so unless it's heavily soiled, it's fine to use without a cover. I have a slab frame that I've been using, so I keep it as is, but I thought it would be nice to use it just with the mattress. The Mela mattress, with its calming vintage blue and buttery color combination, is easy to match with a variety of colors.
