The walnut/black accents on the existing white-neutral beige tone were intended to add warmth and a pop of color. The grid pattern and brown color of the leather backrest contrast with the fabric sofa, and the black steel legs contrast with the silver steel-framed sofa table. I think this item adds a nice accent. I really like this chair because it can be used as a single chair, comfortably sitting by the window overlooking the spacious living room, kitchen, and hallway, or as a tea time spot with guests sitting on the sofa. Previously, when the sofa was full, we'd sit on the rug, or we'd bring in separate dining chairs, which felt awkward and uncomfortable. We ended up just sitting on the rug, which was a bit awkward. I'm looking forward to this new way to use the living room, because it seems like it'll add a little more variety. +_+
