Since the common areas of my house are painted, not wallpapered, it's difficult to use tack pins or pushpins, so I use 3M Command Tape. Depending on the purpose, I sometimes attach hooks, picture hangers (with Velcro), or just tape. I use it so often that I even stock up on refill tape.
