I was debating what to do with the space in front of the middle door, which we use every day, and finally settled on using it as a bag organization area :) I installed a wooden shelf and baskets in front of the middle door so that my child can organize their bags on their own every day when leaving for work, dropping off and picking up daycare, and coming home. On the first level of the shelf, I keep my bag and my child's bag when we go out together. Since items might slide off the top shelf, I simply plop them into the basket—and neatly organize my husband's bag, who leaves first and comes home late! I put the slippers at the bottom of the shelf so they can be put on right away, and it fits perfectly.
