Before & After Closet in a 30-Year-Old Apartment Transforming It into a Pinterest-Style Desk In two-bay apartments, the middle room typically features a built-in closet. I decided to turn this space into a cozy, private sanctuary for concentration. The result is extremely satisfying 🤗 I recommend this project to anyone looking for their own personal space for focus, or to those tired of the similar layouts found in typical Korean apartments. I will share the details of the construction process and materials used to show you how it was made. ☑️ Demolition & Plastering This is the foundation work. After removing the doors, furniture, and even the flooring that was higher than the room floor, I leveled and plastered the floor. Due to budget constraints, I reused the wall panels (tears…). ☑️ Electrical Wiring I anticipated needing to use a laptop or connect power, so I completed the electrical wiring for a new outlet. If you need lighting, such as recessed lights, wiring should be done at this stage. Since I plan to use a portable lamp, I did not install separate lighting. ☑️ Carpentry I built a main desk and a top shelf. I requested that it not warp even when loaded with many books, so the interior of the desk/shelf was framed with square timbers and finished with MDF for the film application. The final thickness is about 5cm, but it doesn't feel thick. ☑️Putty Smoothing the surface with putty before applying the film minimizes the unevenness caused by differences in the wood grain. ☑️Film Wood film: Bodac LW101 White shelf film: Younglim PS160 I chose the Bodac film because it has a beautiful pattern and color, and it seems to naturally capture the feel of wood when touched. ☑️Flooring Egon Maru Ceraflex 165 Dear Beige ☑️Wallpaper LX Hausys Diamant Marmois Porcelain White Through these processes, the current wall cabinet shelf was completed. When we first moved in, I set this up as my husband's game zone. He said it was cozy and stayed to play games all throughout the holidays! (That was completely unexpected 🤯) If you are planning a full renovation of an older building, these processes are mostly included in the basic construction, so you can create this without spending a lot of extra money.
