It felt awkward to put sneakers in the washing machine, but washing them by hand was a hassle and took too long, so I think I ended up wearing them more often than not just putting it off. Especially with white sneakers or slippers, even a tiny stain makes me worry and I find myself being subtly careful. Since they are individually packaged, it is convenient to keep them in my bag and take them out whenever needed. You just wipe them without water, and the dark spots get cleaned up to some extent, so it was much simpler than I expected.
