I think not preparing too much before the baby was born was the start of smart spending! If I had bought things in advance, there might have been a chance to snag a bargain at a low price, but if the child refuses to use them or doesn't use them often, they become clutter while stored, potentially leading to double spending. Even if I tried selling them on Carrot Market, there was the hassle of the transaction process. From a cash flow perspective, buying later is better.
