I didn't purchase the guard separately; I'm just using it mounted against the wall. I sometimes lie down next to her to sleep, and the mattress is super comfortable. I did consider getting a tall wardrobe, but as long as you clear it out regularly and rotate your seasonal clothes, it provides ample storage. In fact, since you can place items on the top of the unit, it feels less cramped, so I am using it very well. There are no separate dividers inside the drawers, so I purchased fabric dividers from Muji. I used it well for storing diapers during infancy, and now I am making good use of it to store items needed in the room. Of course, the main bookshelf is located separately in the living room!
