Capturing the Garden in Clay Bowls I hadn't ordered anything, but a huge delivery box sat in front of the garden gate. When I checked it, of course, it was my boyfriend ❤️ I was touched by the packaging, which was done with such care to make it feel like a truly heartfelt gift, and I was touched again by the incredibly substantial contents of the gift set. It might seem like I only like European or North American styles, but as someone who once dreamed of living in a Hanok wearing only Hanbok as a child, I was overjoyed to receive such neat, elegant, and clean Korean-style dishes as a gift. As I unfolded the dishes one by one, perhaps because they were ceramics that clearly showed they were made and fired from clay—true to the name 'Soil Baker'—I felt a desire to capture our garden in April before trying to serve food in them. So, I spread out the gift package and headed straight out to the garden. By the end of April, all sorts of Korean countryside-style flowers bloom in our garden. Azaleas in the crevices of the rocks, and celandine and violets between the blades of grass. When I first bought the house, I hated the dazzling azaleas because they didn't seem to fit the home, so I intended to turn everything upside down. However, due to a combination of energy depletion and sheer laziness, I simply hadn't been able to touch them yet. Since that was all there was in the garden in April, I gathered azaleas, violets, yellow plum blossoms, and maple branches and placed them one by one in bowls. Wow, the azaleas are so pretty! They blended in perfectly with the bowls, like old friends, and these extremely rustic flowers looked incredibly lovely to me. I thought that perhaps the garden with those azaleas—which I thought didn't fit in with the house, and which has lived here longer than I have—might actually be one of the most authentic aspects of this home. My boyfriend wrote words on a card that were more like a gift than a present itself. To craft a day with the heart of a craftsman, using my most authentic sincerity as material, rather than a contrived appearance. You resemble Special Crafters who cultivate their spaces and daily lives in their own unique ways. Hoping that the warmth blooming from your fingertips fills your space and day with even more specialness, please continue to craft your sincere days with care. This season, I want to be more honest with myself! May this be a season where I learn more about the things I love!
