Here's what I know about choosing tiles for remodeling! Basically, you need to consider whether to go with matte or glossy, light or dark colors, and patterned or plain tiles. I've noticed that high-end patterned tiles are trending these days, too. Also, tiles come in 300x600 rectangular sizes and 600x600 square sizes (larger ones exist). Porcelain tiles are usually square; they are said to be easy to maintain because their large surface area minimizes gaps. However, the larger the tile, the more difficult the installation process, which increases the cost (this applies to bathrooms!). Mosaic tiles are small and perfect for adding accents, but I've heard they are a bit pricey! (Even if it's small, the installation cost goes up ^^;) ❣️Bathroom If you choose rectangular tiles, you need to decide whether to install them horizontally or vertically. I recommend vertically! (It might look a bit narrower, but it looks more sophisticated.) If you choose a bright color for the floor, maintenance can be a bit difficult. Scratches are visible, and even a slight crack stands out immediately. However, if you can see the darker colors, the advantage is that it looks bright and cheerful!! If you have a bathtub, building a tiled wall on the bathtub is a trend these days; you need to decide whether or not to do that as well (I didn't do it!). ❣️Entrance For the entrance, too, using a color that is too bright can be difficult to maintain. The advantage of a terrazzo look is that dust and patterns are hard to distinguish, haha. I think it's best to choose one that looks pretty from a distance. ❣️Kitchen For kitchen tiles, you need to decide first whether to use only the midway tiles or tile the entire room! The atmosphere changes completely depending on that! I think glossy kitchen tiles are easier to maintain. Since the tile color looks completely different when the lights are on compared to when they are off, you shouldn't choose tiles under bright lighting at a tile shop; you need to consider how they look in the dark as well. ❣️Grout Grout is an inseparable part of tiles. You can think of it as the cement(?) applied between the tiles. You can add a bold accent color, or usually, it is kept inconspicuous and similar to the tile color. Nowadays, Ardex is commonly used, but if you are considering grouting for easier maintenance, it is said to be more convenient to apply basic white grout first! Personally, I think it would be best to apply grout only to the bathroom floor (where it comes into contact with water). That’s all from my personal experience!
