Paper Cranes: Making Memories While Folding Time (Teachers' Day) Getting home from work 11:00 PM I was having a serious conversation on the phone with my youngest son's friends. "Is something wrong?" "Nothing. I was talking with my friends because tomorrow is Teachers' Day." My son, who said he was just going out in front of the house for a moment, was holding a glass jar and colored paper in his hands. ^^: I remember folding paper cranes when I was 17, missing my mother who had divorced due to domestic violence, and holding onto the wish that our family could live happily together again. And now, about 35 years later, I, a middle-aged woman over 50, am folding paper cranes again for my youngest son's last Teachers' Day as a high school senior. ^^: "I don't even know how to fold a crane." It all started with that one remark from the high school boys. I started with the sole desire to give a memorable gift, but eventually, the whole family sat around folding paper cranes together. It was a time filled with conversation as we recalled my own teenage years and the teenage years of my eldest daughter, who has now become a 20-something before I knew it. To some, it might seem like nothing special. But for us, it was definitely a moment that would be remembered for a long time. I thought of myself 30 years ago, and I thought of my eldest daughter's time 10 years ago. Once today passes, my youngest son will surely remember this time someday, too. Now that I am middle-aged, I suddenly thought of my former teacher who is heading toward old age, and I felt a strong urge to call him tomorrow just to say hello. Thanks to the time we spent putting our heads together to fold paper cranes, we briefly traveled back in time, and it felt as though we had already stockpiled a memory—like an energy bar—to take out and eat when our hearts grow weary in the future. Amidst the conversation we shared while folding the cranes, my youngest son said: "Mom, you've fulfilled your wish~ because the whole family is living harmoniously." 2:00 AM. My eyes were closing, but my heart was strangely full—a record of yesterday and today. It seems the wish I folded when I was 17 was coming true like this. ^^ . . #TeachersDay #PaperCrane #MakeAWish #FamilyStory #RecordOfTheDay #DayAWishComeTrue #SmallHappiness #Mom'sRecord #DailyRecord #CornSoupRecord #DailyLifeOfMiddleAged
