A 6-year-old Yulma🌳 that has been with me since I officially started Twinkle Garden in 2020. Here is the know-how from raising three Yulma siblings~ 1️⃣ The most important thing is watering! 💧 Watering is 90%!! The biggest reason Yulma died so quickly was because I missed watering. If you just water them properly, they won't die. Every morning, I stroke the Yulma to feel its softness, and if the surface soil is dry, I water it. You can definitely feel the difference when you stroke it. (Sufficient moisture - Elastic and stiff feel Insufficient moisture - Soft and less elastic) Since Chamaecyparis obtusa rarely gets overwatered, do not skimp on watering; water thoroughly immediately whenever the surface soil looks quite dry. 2️⃣ The basics are sunlight and ventilation. Chamaecyparis obtusa grows weak and sickly if it lacks sunlight and ventilation. I grow mine by a sunny window. 🌞 3️⃣ Repotting according to growth. Since it tends to have many fine roots, root respiration is important. Old soil hinders ventilation and respiration and causes overwatering. Please change the soil about once every two years, and if it has grown quite large, please expand its enclosure as well~ 4️⃣ I tend to pursue a natural shape... (Actually, I just prune it because I can't get the shape right! 😂) If you prune the dry branches inside and pinch off new shoots from time to time, you can grow it lush and healthy~ 🌿 Try growing a wonderful, fresh, and pest-free Yulma!
