Dividing Small Homes into Zones with Partition Walls and Rugs Since the house I recently moved into isn't very spacious, I felt it was a bit of a waste to use the living room for only one purpose. There was the space for watching TV, the dining area, the path for Hachi to walk, and even the stuff I wanted to hide. So, in this house, I used partition walls and rugs to naturally separate the space. I hope this helps those who want to divide their space in a small home. ⸻ 1. Hiding Unsightly Stuff with a Partition Wall As you live in a house, you inevitably accumulate items in storage or things you use frequently but don't like looking at. If you lack storage space or find it difficult to organize items immediately, simply covering them up slightly with a partition wall or divider makes the space look much neater. I especially recommend wooden dividers. Unlike heavy partition walls, they are easy to move and can be repositioned when needed. Most importantly, they look pretty like decorative items, so they feel less burdensome. ⸻ 2. Solving the problem of a door being immediately visible with a partition wall My house has a layout where the flow of movement toward the bathroom is immediately visible when the entrance door is opened, so this was a bit of a concern for me. In this case, utilizing a partition wall allows you to block the view while naturally creating a passageway. Since it doesn't completely block the view but rather provides a slight concealment, it doesn't feel stifling, and the space looks more organized. ⸻ 3. Dividing living spaces with rugs While a partition wall serves to block the view, a rug serves to divide the space on the floor. In our living room, there is a space for watching TV, as well as a dining area with a dining set. If you lay down rugs with different vibes in each zone, the spaces are naturally separated even without walls. In particular, placing a rug under the dining table creates the feeling that "this is the dining area," while a rug in the living room creates the atmosphere of "this is the relaxation area." ⸻ 4. Separating Dog Movement Paths with Rugs Since we have Hachi, I laid down a separate rug in the hallway as well. As a result, even though the space is connected, it felt like the movement paths were naturally divided. And best of all, it helps protect Hachi's kneecaps. Instead of leaving the slippery floor as is, laying down a rug made it much more stable for Hachi to walk around. ⸻ Recommended Pet Rugs for Summer The product I used this time is the Daydreamer Airfit Pet Rug. I laid them out for the living room, hallway, and even as a dog food bowl mat, and I was quite satisfied. The material feels light and cool, making it great for the summer season like now. It is also easy to wash, so I think it is a product well-suited for homes with dogs. There are rumors that it is currently 25% off, so if you need one, be sure to check it out. ⸻ Overall Review If you want to divide space in a small house, I don't think you necessarily need to do major renovations. Organizing the visual flow with a partition wall and dividing living areas with a rug. Just these two things made the house feel much neater and more functional. I recommend this method to those looking for small house interiors, homes with pet dogs, and those who want to divide their living room space for various purposes.
