#리모델링오답노트 What I Realized After Remodeling Twice in Two Years 📒 Don't Do This When Remodeling 🙅🏻♀️ During my first remodeling, I thought it just needed to look pretty. However, once I actually lived there, I realized that what you see in photos is completely different from real life. As I undertook my second remodeling in two years, I focused most on fixing the parts I was dissatisfied with in my first home, one by one. ❌ Remodeling, Don't Do This! 1. Don't plan the lighting to be unconditionally bright. For my first home, I installed mostly daylight-colored lighting thinking, "The brighter, the better." At first, I was satisfied because it looked bright and clean, but after actually living there, it felt like an office even in the evening, and my eyes got tired easily. It didn't fit at all with our lifestyle, where we spend a lot of time relaxing at home 🥲 This time, I designed the lighting differently depending on the space. * Living Room, Bedroom → Cool White, Total Cool White, Warm White * Kitchen → Primarily Cool White Overall, a much softer and more comfortable atmosphere was created, making it a home perfect for relaxing in the evenings. 2. Don't insist solely on 'pure white.' In the first remodeling, I matched everything—from the wallpaper and kitchen tiles to the film—to a cool-toned, cold white. It looked neat in the photos, but in reality, the space felt too cold and detached. Small stains were easily visible, making maintenance harder than expected 🌫️. This time, even though it is still white, I chose a color with a slight warm tone. By matching the tones for the wallpaper, kitchen film, and countertops, the space became much cozier. The wooden window frames and flooring blended naturally, making this one of the parts I am most satisfied with now. ✅ Be sure to check these things when remodeling! 1. Consider your family's lifestyle patterns first. While beauty is important, a comfortable home leads to higher satisfaction in the long run. Since we spend a lot of time relaxing at home, we designed the lighting to suit the atmosphere of rest, and unified the overall color scheme to create a warm mood. I felt that choosing an interior that fits my lifestyle is more important than following trends. If I followed trends that weren't my style, I ended up not liking it in the end.💧 2. Decide on the tone and manner by looking at the whole picture. If you choose only pretty colors for the wallpaper or the film, it can look less cohesive than you might expect. For this remodeling, I matched the tones by placing the wallpaper, kitchen film, countertops, flooring, and even the window frame colors side by side for comparison. Thanks to this, the space feels naturally connected no matter where you look, and the result is a home that won't get boring over time. ⸻ If the first remodeling was the process of creating a trendy, pretty house, the second remodeling was the process of creating a ‘livable home that reflects my taste.’ Thanks to the regrets I felt while living there myself, I was able to create a more satisfying space this time. I hope that those preparing for remodeling in the future will also give special thought to the lighting color temperature and the overall tone and style.
