The ingredients I always put in are basil, roasted pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and a pinch of salt! I've tried adding various nuts, but I find that using roasted pine nuts gives the cleanest, nuttiest flavor, so I keep making it with this combination. The process is really simple; you just put the ingredients in a blender and grind them finely, and that's it. I prefer using basil pesto in pasta or risotto rather than spreading it on bread, so I portion it out into silicone ice cube trays and freeze it immediately.
