As Yuchan turned 6, I recently gave his room a complete makeover. I organized the room that used to be filled with robot toys and am now filling it one by one with creative educational toys, like blocks and board games, that allow him to build and think for himself. In the past, I used to look for games that were unconditionally exciting and fun, but these days, I find myself naturally observing how much he focuses and thinks for himself while playing. That is why I find myself bringing out board games often. From waiting for his turn, observing the opponent's moves, to agonizing over where to send the stone to gain an advantage, I think the real charm of board games is not just about determining a winner and a loser, but the process of the child finding their own strategy. The rules of the Bebe Cozy Curling board game are simple, so my child understood it quickly, but since the outcome depends on the position of the curling stone once it is pushed, it wasn't something that could be won easily. At first, Yuchan was busy pushing with all his might, but after playing a few times, he started to notice the position of the opponent's stone. I surveyed the area and started thinking about where to aim. The rules are simple, but the results are different every time, so it is a game that both adults and children get hooked on the more they play.
