I had to create designs for the newly released Y-Cup that incorporated individual, unfamiliar tastes. I wondered what those unfamiliar tastes were... what other tastes were hidden within me that I couldn't easily reveal? I decided to create designs using vivid colors. (Although I do like vibrant colors, I am not very good at capturing them indoors.) While I was roughly deciding on a direction and contemplating a subject, I ended up going to my maternal grandmother's house to pick wild strawberries. As soon as I saw the basket full of bright red, perfectly ripe strawberries, I knew this was it. I wanted to convey some personal meaning as well, rather than just the fact that they were "vivid." I am by nature a person who is stingy when it comes to expressing love to those closest to me. Ever since I was very young, my grandmother would sing the song of "wild strawberries, wild strawberries" every early summer. Although she was troubled by the strawberries spreading along the edges of the fields because of me, she never once thought about cutting down the bushes. In the fall, she would gather ripe persimmons, and in early summer, wild strawberries, saying, "Give these to Mijeong," or "Give them to your granddaughter." By the time I had grown up and no longer looked for those strawberries, I realized that the reason my grandmother continued to cultivate the field was because of me. Since then, every year I gather my friends, go to the field to pick strawberries, and share them. Wild strawberries are my grandmother's way of expressing her love to me, and they are also my own unique way of sharing that love with the people around me. I created this cup with the hope that we could see the pattern of wild strawberries—which remind me of my grandmother's love every year—forever and ever. I have captured my unconventional tastes and a shy, unfamiliar declaration of love in this cup... Infinite love to my grandmother who gave me this inspiration... 🩷 Isn't my cup so pretty? If you would like to keep one, please vote hard both online and offline... ღ . . . #SuddenlyBringingOutMyTaste #93cups93stories #TodaysHome #TodaysHomeCreator #SpecialCreator #IDO #IDOCeramics
