My kitchen items are quite modest. I tend not to leave tools out in the open because I lack the confidence to clean diligently. I like wood, but I rarely use it in the kitchen because I think it would be difficult to maintain hygiene. So, I alternate between silicone and wooden cutting boards. Instead, I make up for this lack with small items like wooden coasters. I recommend the popular IKEA brush that holds detergent; it is affordable and practical. Having one on hand is very helpful. I didn't like the blue tiles in the kitchen even before I moved in, but when I put out the blue cutlery holder that I had hidden away because it wasn't my style, it actually looked great.
