#리모델링하다생긴일 What if it looked pretty in the sample but turned out to be a different color after installation?!! This is something everyone experiences at least once while doing interior design. It’s not that the contractor brought different materials or that there’s something wrong with my eyes—it’s simply because the same color looks different when the viewing environment changes. I’ve compiled a list of things I learned through my own semi-DIY experience. 1. Small Samples = No Judging The feeling is completely different when viewed as a chip compared to when viewed across an entire wall or floor. Bright beige and white look even whiter when laid out broadly, while dark colors like deep green and navy appear to have a much larger presence. You need to use large samples (A4 size or larger) and move between bright and shaded areas to get a look that is at least somewhat similar to the actual result. 2. Lighting Color Temperature Changes the Color 3000K warm white makes beige, wood, and cream tones appear more yellow and reddish, while 5000–6500K daylight white makes white and gray appear colder and bluer. If the lighting in a store is different from the lighting in your home, colors are bound to look different. 3. Natural light isn't the same all day long either. The same material looks different depending on the time of day—morning, noon, and evening—and the direction of the window. (According to Benjamin Moore, light in north-facing rooms feels cold and soft all day long.) In homes with strong natural light, bright colors may appear washed out, while in homes with less light, white and gray can look duller. 4. The color and texture of surrounding furniture also have an impact. If you have red wood flooring, the lower part of the wall appears warmer, while the wall next to a dark sofa or rug looks duller. This is due to reflected light. The same principle explains why matte finishes appear calm and glossy finishes appear shinier. Judging by holding them up in large sizes is much more accurate. I found out about Sample Warehouse while looking for a place to see large samples in person.
