It was too narrow to place furniture, yet felt too empty to leave it bare, so I decided to place a shelf that doubles as a light fixture in this space. A method I often use when decorating a space is to make practical items look like part of the decoration. I installed old, unused bathroom fixtures on the wall, set up brass railings and lighting against a white background, and added vintage button decorations to transform the space into an atmosphere reminiscent of an old hotel elevator or Art Deco wall decor. I placed my daily perfume on the top shelf and a brown-toned vase in the center, allowing them to serve both storage and decorative purposes. Especially in narrow spaces like the entryway, placing a single vertical object that draws the eye rather than scattering many small items seems to create a distinct impression of the space without taking up too much floor space. The white shelf blends naturally with the surrounding bright walls, and the brass and brown colors were matched to complement the burlwood grain of the old shoe cabinet next to it. Even discarded or unused items can be repurposed into interior objects with completely different uses if you recombin their colors and materials to match the surrounding space. For ambiguous leftover spaces, instead of filling them with too many things, try choosing one item that will serve as the centerpiece of that space. This is how I styled my entryway.🏛️☺️
