I thought that with this size, a spiral staircase was the only solution. I recalled the spiral staircase in the attic of our newlywed home, but as a parent raising a child, I was extremely worried about safety. I managed to persuade my husband, an architectural engineering student who wanted to handle everything himself, and after much deliberation, I finally sent an SOS to an architect acquaintance and had an urgent meeting. My acquaintance provided a wonderful solution to my headache, which was caused by the narrow void combined with the excessively high ceiling. Instead of letting the high ceiling become an advantage, they designed a 'spiral staircase' that twists three times upwards. It was a truly breathtaking moment. Since a steel staircase stands imposingly right as you open the front door, the structure might seem a bit odd at first. However, once it was actually built, the space utilization was incredibly practical. In particular, the empty space beneath the stairs is being fully utilized as a cozy playroom for my child, so I am extremely satisfied every single day these days.
