'From removing the refrigerator cabinet blocking the living room and kitchen to custom installation' The existing refrigerator cabinet was stiflingly blocking the space between the living room and kitchen, and since it didn't fit the refrigerator's dimensions, the remaining space was awkward. After much deliberation, we decided to remove the existing cabinet and reinstall a custom-made one. 1️⃣ Asking for understanding from neighbors before construction 🏠 Since it was demolition work, I was worried about noise and dust, so I asked for the understanding of the neighbors in advance and posted construction notices. I prepared thoroughly to minimize inconvenience as much as possible before starting the work. But who knew that tearing down just one refrigerator cabinet would turn into such a big deal?🤣 2️⃣ Unexpected problems appeared after demolition 🔨😱 Once the refrigerator cabinet was removed, the space between the living room and kitchen opened up wide, and the sense of openness was really great. However, the area hidden behind the cabinet was unpainted, leaving the cement and plywood exposed. Furthermore, the existing wallpaper was a discontinued product, so it was difficult to find the same one. I was worried that using a different wallpaper would make it look unnatural, but fortunately, a neighbor shared some of the exact same wallpaper they had in storage. Thanks to them, we were able to finish it neatly. I was truly grateful 🥹 3️⃣ The real challenge was yet to come… A dust bomb 💨🧹 Once the demolition was finished, the entire house was covered in white dust. Dust had gotten into not only the floors but also the insides of drawers, the gaps between furniture, and between appliances, so the whole family spent the whole day wiping and wiping.🤣 It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that cleaning was harder than removing the refrigerator cabinet. 4️⃣ Construction Details and Costs 💰📋 Removal of existing refrigerator cabinet Fabrication and installation of gap cabinets and custom refrigerator cabinets Fixing floor levels and wall finishes Restoration of ceiling and wall wallpaper Dust cleaning after removal Total construction: 2 days / Cleaning: 1 full day Total cost: 2.9 million KRW (Removal & finishing approx. 900,000 KRW + Custom cabinet fabrication & installation approx. 2 million KRW) 5️⃣ Thoughts from the Experience 💡🏠 Before removal, it is highly recommended to check the condition of the floor and walls at the back, as well as whether the existing wallpaper has been discontinued. When fabricating a refrigerator cabinet, do not just look at the refrigerator size; be sure to check the door opening angle and the clearance on both sides! And most importantly, I recommend doing this immediately upon moving in, if possible. Since we were doing renovations in a house we were already living in, we had to be careful with the furniture and appliances, and cleaning up the dust accumulated throughout the house after the removal was really difficult. Even after wiping it all day, dust kept coming off 🤣 So, if you are planning to remove the refrigerator cabinet, I think it would be much more convenient to do it at the same time as moving in or when you are moving out. Ultimately, I am really satisfied. Getting rid of the refrigerator cabinet that was stiflingly blocking the living room and kitchen makes the house look much more spacious, and the sense of openness has definitely changed. From the discontinued wallpaper to a neighbor sharing theirs, and the all-day war against dust 🤣 I really went through a lot just to remove one refrigerator cabinet. Still, it was well worth the 2.9 million won I spent!
