My Second 1st Grader's Study Habits I tried using a desk in the child's room, but in the end, the place they sat best was right next to Mom, at the living room desk. I carefully considered everything from the lighting to the placement of the dining table so that they wouldn't lose focus, and so that the living room decor wouldn't be disrupted. The living room has transformed into a study cafe with soft music playing in the background.
