This is what the room looked like when my child was young. I'm uploading photos I found while organizing a photo album. When my child was young, I used a low and sturdy IKEA Kallax bookshelf. The advantage of Kallax is that it's wide when viewed from the side, so the books don't stick out, so it looks neat.
