I tend to have guests over often. I wanted to prepare meals while chatting, so I arranged the island home bar table and microwave cabinet in an L-shape, transforming it into a (somewhat) open-plan kitchen haha. It’s really useful because it ensures an efficient workflow and cooking space. I positioned the space above the refrigerator and the messy areas out of sight, creating screens using tension rods and canvas fabric. Since the entrance and kitchen are close, I covered the area with a yellow checkered curtain so my shoes wouldn't be visible. An unexpected benefit of the L-shape is that I now have a hallway, albeit very short haha. Because the space is clearly separated, it actually looks wider. I recommend this to anyone living in a small house.
