As the year began, my family decided to renovate our home using a semi-DIY approach. The house is generally small, and being a 30-year-old structure, the unusual layout gave us some trouble. It felt stifling because the piano was blocking the window, but after discovering a partition wall that was easy to set up, we moved the piano. It felt refreshing to see the piano, not the TV, as the first thing you see when entering the house. Since there is almost nothing blocking the view behind it, the piano sound is clearer. Because the house has poor insulation, my father added insulation to the exterior walls, and we hired a local contractor to replace the windows with double-pane ones. Since the piano is large and black, we decided to use lighter colors for the rest of the space. The air conditioner was an old model featuring a trendy purple floral pattern, so we applied adhesive film to change it to white. I thought having only neutral colors might be too monotonous, so I added a touch of color to the cushions. The intercom and switch were originally on the wall behind the piano, but we ran the wires and mounted them on the partition wall. Since my younger sibling cannot walk, we installed them slightly lower to find a point of contact between them and us. Although surface-mounted switches are typically used in places like warehouses, I decided to incorporate them as a fun element to match the modern interior of the living room. In the bottom left is a reusable silica gel dehumidifier. I recently threw away the dehumidifiers inside the closet and learned they were harmful, so I switched to this product, which is reusable and harmless to humans. I also like how pretty it looks. While renovating our home, we decided to try and change our family's habits of not organizing well and not cleaning often. After laying down brighter colored flooring and placing a handheld vacuum cleaner, we started cleaning more frequently. To avoid piling up clutter, we didn't place a table in front of the storage bench. Even without a table, we can read books there and enjoy the sunlight that barely makes it in during the day. This storage bench features drawers, making it easy to put items in, take them out, and organize them. Since there is no table, it is nice not to have anything getting in the way when opening the drawers. Rolling around and playing on the bare rug is also fun in its own way.
