We are smack in the middle of a kitchen renovation, and I feel like it’s important to share the reality of what that looks like. We started with a very 1980s kitchen – white shiny cabinets, laminate counters, blue watercolor floor tile, peel and stick backsplash and teal walls. We are on a tight budget, so I’m using everything I can from the original kitchen, while adding, adjusting and finessing the space to fit our 1890s Victorian home. We painted the cabinets taupe and built a new wall of cabinets for a pantry. I’m currently tiling the floors with a slate look tile in a herringbone pattern. And I’m going to try changing the look of the counters with contact paper. Next up, I’ll be putting up a new marble backsplash, creating a coffee nook, and changing the lighting. The kitchen and TV room are separated by the dining table. Because I really like eating while watching, but I don't want to eat on the sofa. The problem is eating while snacking here too😝 this area is 4x7m so we DIY hacked this dining table using Ikea Kallax then gave it a table top and table legs. Warm light at night can create a romantic and relaxing mood. Usually here, when all the kids have gone into their respective rooms, these small lights will turn on.
