We are smack in the middle of a kitchen renovation, and I feel like it’s important to share the reality of what that looks like. We started with a very 1980s kitchen – white shiny cabinets, laminate counters, blue watercolor floor tile, peel and stick backsplash and teal walls. We are on a tight budget, so I’m using everything I can from the original kitchen, while adding, adjusting and finessing the space to fit our 1890s Victorian home. We painted the cabinets taupe and built a new wall of cabinets for a pantry. I’m currently tiling the floors with a slate look tile in a herringbone pattern. And I’m going to try changing the look of the counters with contact paper. Next up, I’ll be putting up a new marble backsplash, creating a coffee nook, and changing the lighting.
